At least four people were killed in a traffic accident on a highway located 55 kilometers (34 miles) south of Guatemala City, a fire department spokesman said.

A commercial vehicle and a private vehicle traveling at a high speed collided Saturday and burst into flames on the highway, the fire department spokesman said.

"The three occupants of the commercial vehicle burned to death, while a fourth person, who was traveling in the private automobile, died due to the impact," the fire department spokesman said.

Three other people, all members of a family taveling to southern Guatemala in the private automobile, were seriously injured and transported to a hospital.

Four other people were killed on Friday when a vehicle carrying a dozen people plunged into a ravine near a rural town in the western province of San Marcos. EFE
