Five people were wounded by gunfire in several shootings Saturday night in Chicago, local authorities reported, according to the daily Chicago Tribune.

The spokesperson for the city police department, Amina Greer, confirmed that a 20-year-old man was shot in the head in a building complex in West Diversey.

The victim, whose identity has not been revealed, was transported to the Norwegian American Hospital, where doctors stabilized him.

Elsewhere, a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were shot in a building in the western neighborhood of Pilsen.

The woman was shot in the face and is in critical condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, police said, while the man is hospitalized in good condition.

Another man, also 21, was shot in a drive-by in the southern neighborhood of Bronzeville and taken to the same hospital, where he was stabilized.

Later in the evening, another man, about whom no further details were made available, was shot in a building in the northwestern neighborhood of Humboldt Park.

Police are investigating the incidents and have refused to provide any more information about them while they are at work trying to determine the motives and perpetrators behind the attacks. EFE
