Two Algerian air force pilots died when their respective planes collided during training exercises, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

According to the communique, the accident occurred Monday night in the skies over the western province of Tlemecen, bordering on Morocco.

The note said that other than the deaths of the pilots and the destruction of both aircraft, no further material damage or human harm was reported.

The ministry also said that a commission has been set up to investigate the causes and circumstances of the accident.

On Nov. 9, six Algerians died in a crash in the town of Trelans, France, when their military cargo plane went down en route from Paris to the North African nation.

The plane crashed about 100 kilometers (62 miles) northwest of Montpellier for reasons still unknown. EFE
