At least six people died and a pilot went missing when two small planes collided Saturday near the western German town of Wölfersheim, some 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Frankfurt, police said.
The two aircraft collided in mid-air and crashed to earth, they said.
The remains of the two light planes were scattered across a field within a radius of several hundred meters (yards).
What caused the disaster, which occurred around 4:15 p.m. as darkness was falling, has not yet been determined.
A few kilometers (miles) from the scene of the accident is Reichelsheim Airport, a facility for commercial airlines and private planes as well as for rescue helicopters.
Police had originally reported four deaths in the crash.
In March, three men and two women lost their lives when a plane went down near Frankfurt Egelsbach Airport, also in western Germany. EFE
