Colombian actress Maria Adelaida Puerta, who captivated international audiences in her role as "La Perrys" in the action series "El Capo," is returning to television as a sophisticated Colombian drug trafficker who falls in love with a U.S. drug enforcement agent in the telenovela "La Mariposa."

"'La Mariposa' is a series about money laundering and at the same time is a love story that goes through some pretty unusual circumstances," Puerta told Efe.

Alicia Benitez, known as "La Mariposa," is "a high-society woman who had the opportunity to study outside Colombia, to study at the Sorbonne in France and at a university in Florida. She is a very intelligent woman and her ambition makes her go down the path of money laundering, thinking that it's going to be easy and it's all a game," Puerta said.

"La Mariposa. Amores que matan" (The Butterfly. Love that Kills) is a 60-episode action telenovela produced by Fox Telecolombia for Colombia's Radio Cadena Nacional de Television, or RCN.

The soap was filmed in Colombia, Mexico and Miami between November 2010 and June 2011.

The telenovela will be broadcast in Colombia starting on Tuesday night and will be shown in the United States on the MundoFox network. EFE
