Fourteen miners remain trapped, though two others were rescued, after a mine in Heilongjiang in northeastern China flooded, the official Xinhua news agency reported Sunday.

The two miners were rescued Sunday around midday and taken to a hospital in the city of Qitaihe, while six other miners were able to escape from the mine on their own.

Authorities said that rescue operations are continuing and water has begun to be pumped from the mine, Xinhua reported.

According to official sources, the mine has the proper license and is operating legally, but the cause of the accident is not yet known. EFE
