Five young peasant women were gang-raped after trying to collect their wages from a landowner whose crops they tilled, a police officer in northeastern Pakistan told Efe Wednesday.

The victims, ranging in age from 14 to 19, are members of an extended family who had done some work for a farmer near the village of Nun.

The young women approached the landowner last week to ask for their wages, but he responded with angry threats. Hours later, eight men came to the encampment where the family was sleeping, tied up the men and sexually assaulted the five teenagers.

"Four of the rapists have been arrested and we continue the search for the other four," local police commander Ishfaq Khan told Efe.

A relative of the victims said the landowner and some of his kinsmen were among the attackers, Express Tribune newspaper reported. EFE
