The successful revival of the musical "Evita" starring Elena Roger and Ricky Martin will continue on Broadway indefinitely even though these two star performers will bow out of the show on Jan. 26.

Producers Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders announced Tuesday in a communique that the current version of the musical that debuted in April will continue two months more with the original cast, after which Martin, Roger and Michael Cerveris, who plays Juan Peron, will leave the cast.

The new stars will be announced later, according to the producers' note, which said that in the past few months the musical has broken the Broadway box-office record seven times.

The work by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber premiered for the first time on a Broadway stage in 1979 starring Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin, after which it ran for three and a half years and won seven Tony Awards.

The current version is directed by the prizewinning Michael Grandage and boasts the choreography of veteran Rob Ashford, another Tony winner. EFE
