A group of gunmen armed with assault rifles on Thursday murdered seven men and wounded a woman at a private health clinic in the southern part of this capital, authorities said.
A spokesman for the National Civil Police told reporters that the squad of gunmen arrived at the site in an all-terrain vehicle and that six of the victims died at the scene.
The seventh victim, Trinidad Mendez Chacon, an employee of a private executive bodyguard company, is the only person identified by authorities so far and he died in the emergency room of the public hospital where he was taken after the massacre.
An official with the Interior Ministry told Efe that the attack was directed against the woman who was wounded and who had been at the clinic for a medical appointment.
The woman's condition was not specified, but the Interior Ministry source said that the dead were the woman's bodyguards and security guards at the building, without giving any further details.
"At the scene there are (projectiles) of different calibers, but there are no weapons. Evidently, the attackers took them away," the National Civil Police spokesman said. EFE
