A gubernatorial candidate in the April 2013 general elections was stabbed to death in San Pedro, a province in central Paraguay, the National Police said.
Oscar Carvallar, a member of the Unace party, was a medical doctor.
The body of the politician, who was stabbed several times, was found Monday night on a rural road in Guayaibi, a town located about 300 kilometers (186 miles) east of Asuncion.
Carvallar's relatives had reported him missing about 10 hours before his body was found, police said.
The politician's SUV was found on Tuesday in a field in Mariano Roque Alonso, a city near Asuncion, police said, without any leads or possible motives for the crime. EFE
