Three men and a teenage boy were fatally shot in a village near the Caribbean port city of La Ceiba, a source in the Honduran national police said Tuesday.
The killings took place before dawn in Bonitillo.
Authorities found the bodies of three of the victims on the street and the fourth was discovered inside a nearby home, the source said.
Police have no information on a possible motive, but media accounts suggested the violence may have been linked to a clash between rival criminal groups.
Honduras's 2011 homicide rate of 92 murders per 100,000 people was one of the highest in the world, U.N. experts said in a recent report.
About 18 violent deaths occur in the Central American country daily, according to figures compiled by the National Police and human rights groups. EFE
