At least 10 people have died and another 20 have gone missing in floods that inundated the Indonesian island of Celebes over the past few days, local media said Friday.
The fatalities were killed in a mudslide caused by Thursday's torrential rains in the mountainous district of Batanguru on the western part of Celebes island.
Emergency management crews are searching among the rubble for the missing persons, according to the daily Makasar Terkini.
Local police chief Yuslim Yunus said the mudslide fell into a river, causing it to overflow and destroy about a dozen nearby homes.
Indonesia's emergency management agency alerted citizens two weeks ago that the rainy season was about to start, which every year between November and February claims dozens of lives in flooding and mudslides. EFE
