The Puerto Rican police said Monday that nine people were slain over the weekend.

The most recent homicide was that of Jose Velazquez Rodriguez, 46, who was found dead Sunday morning at his home in the central town of Cayey.

Police said in a communique that the body of Velazquez Rodriguez was found lying on its back in a bed at home, with blood on the pillow and the floor.

Another of the nine murders was that of Deshane del Valle Mendez, 18, who died after being shot in the head by her brother Justin as they were playing with a handgun.

Elsewhere, the Division of Illegal Drugs and Arms at San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport said that 62 kilos of cocaine had been seized over the weekend. EFE
