At least five people, including a 6-year-old girl, died and 14 others were injured when a bus collided head-on with a pick-up truck in northern Colombia, media reports said Monday.

The accident occurred in Lomita Arena, a hamlet in the northern province of Bolivar, Cartagena police chief Lt. Luis Rodriguez told the Bogota daily El Tiempo.

The injured were taken to clinics in Cartagena and Barranquilla, and investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident, Rodriguez said.

The bus belonged to the La Costeña company, which offers service between Barranquilla and Cartagena, the capitals of Atlantico and Bolivar provinces, respectively.

The accident was the most serious reported over the weekend on the Andean nation's roads. EFE
