Two inmates were killed and three other people wounded in a fight at Yanamayo prison in the southeastern region of Puno, the head of Peru's INPE penitentiary service said Friday.
The fight erupted Thursday night and involved prisoners in two cellblocks, Jose Luis Perez told RPP radio.
Two inmates were stabbed to death, while another prisoner and two prison employees were injured, he said.
Authorities searched the prison for weapons after the brawl and initiated an investigation to identify the ringleaders, Perez said.
Located at an altitude of 3,800 meters (12,459 feet), remote Yanamayo prison has become a maximum-security lockup holding people convicted of terrorism and other serious crimes. EFE
