The Civil Guard is looking for a man who gunned down a 13-year-old girl and a man in a town in the central Spanish province of Albacete and wounded a third person, officials said Sunday.

Investigators are looking at the possibility that the girl may have been the target in Saturday night's shooting and the male victim just happened to be at the location near the church in the town of El Salobral where the crime occurred.

The suspect may have been trying to start a romantic relationship with the teenage girl, El Salobral Mayor Angel Sanchez said.

Investigators who spoke with Efe have not confirmed this possible motive.

The victims and the suspected gunman all lived in the town, the mayor and residents said.

Police cordoned off the town and searched for the suspect through the night in surrounding areas.

Officials and police urged residents to stay in their homes until the suspect was found. EFE
