At least three people were killed and 30 were injured when a bus crashed into a residence in western El Salvador, police said.

Eight-year-old Pilar de los Angeles Mena, 96-year-old Virgina Mancia and 71-year-old Juana Bartolome Mancia died Friday when the bus destroyed their sheet-metal home, a police spokeswoman told Efe.

Thirty people on board the bus were injured and taken to a hospital in Santa Ana, a city 66 kilometers (40 miles) northeast of San Salvador, she said.

The accident occurred on a road that links the western provinces of Sonsonate and Santa Ana.

The bus's steering apparently failed when it was headed to Santa Ana, causing the vehicle to crush the flimsy home, the spokeswoman added. EFE
