At least one person died and five were injured Saturday when a fireworks factory exploded in the central Honduran province of La Paz, officials said.
Fire Department spokesman Oscar Triminio told reporters that the explosion occurred at 11:00 a.m. local time (1700 GMT) inside a fireworks factory in the La Concepcion neighborhood of La Paz.
The fatality was identified as Jose Cruz, owner of the fireworks firm, the spokesman said.
The injured, identified as Marcio Castillo, Jorge Iglesias, Marco Tulio Bulnes, Donaldo Mejia and Eduardo Orellana, were taken to the Roberto Suazo Cordova Hospital, he said.
Triminio said that three of the injured, all factory employees, "had burns on almost 100 percent of their bodies," while the other two "have slight burns."
Firefighters are working "to establish the causes of the explosion," which also damaged several nearby homes, Triminio said without give further details. EFE
