A Mexican man who tried to leave Guatemala with $105,000 in cash in his luggage was arrested by drug enforcement agents at the airport in the capital, the National Civilian Police, or PNC, said Tuesday.

Gerardo Marin Betancourt was arrested late Monday at Guatemala City's La Aurora International Airport after arriving on a flight from Panama.

The 30-year-old Marin was arrested by agents of the DAIA drug enforcement agency when he tried to board a flight to Mexico, officials said.

Marin had hidden the cash, whose origins have not been determined, in his luggage.

He was charged with money laundering, the PNC said. EFE
