A fan of the Vasco da Gama soccer club was gunned down over the weekend during a fight with fans of rival Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian police said.

A second fan was injured in the fight, which started Sunday when a bus carrying Flamengo fans to Joao Havelange Stadium approached a service station where Vasco fans had gathered.

The Flamengo fans got off the bus and began fighting with their rivals.

The 60 people aboard the bus were taken to a police station and eyewitnesses identified the shooter.

Flamengo, one of Brazil's most storied soccer teams, beat Vasco da Gama 1-0 in Sunday's game. EFE
