Nicaraguan singer Luis Enrique was robbed at gunpoint when he was about to enter his hotel in Caracas together with his agent, but neither man was hurt.
Enrique and his representative suffered "an assault at the door of their hotel" at around 5:00 p.m. by two motorists who aimed their guns at them, an employee of the luxury hotel, located on the southwest side of the Venezuelan capital, told Efe.
According to the witness, the robbers took the salsa star's watch and an identity bracelet from his associate.
Because of the incident, Luis Enrique requested, according to the daily El Universal, that his security be doubled for the rest of his tour of the country, where he has concerts lined up in Valencia, Caracas and Barquisimeto.
The robbery was yet another assault on an artist in Venezuela, one of the most violent countries in the region.
In May, Spanish singer Julio Iglesias was robbed of his passport, cash and other belongings at a hotel in Valencia.
Last Dec. 15, Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañon was also a robbery victim when thieves broke into her entourage's bus and robbed them of billfolds and suitcases. EFE
