A 5-year-old boy gunned down a 54-year-old man in San Francisco de Macoris, a city in the northeastern Dominican Republic, police said.

The little boy used a pistol handed to him by a stranger to shoot Arsenio Diaz Rodriguez in the chest, National Police spokesman Maximo Baez Aybar said.

A man identified only as "Polo" gave the boy, whose name cannot be revealed for legal reasons, the pistol, the police spokesman said.

The man supposedly handed the little boy the gun so he could scare Diaz Rodriguez, Baez Aybar said.

Diaz Rodriguez had driven up in his automobile and joked that he was going to run over the boy, who shot him a few moments later, the police spokesman said.

The gun's owner took the weapon back from the boy and fled from the scene on a motorcycle, police said.

Diaz Rodriguez was well known in the San Francisco de Macoris entertainment community, but he left the business after being arrested and deported from the United States a few years ago, police said. EFE
