A naked man who was chewing on the face of another man on a causeway off-ramp in downtown Miami was shot and killed by a police officer, The Miami Herald reported Sunday.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon near the newspaper's offices off Biscayne Boulevard.

"According to police sources, a road ranger saw a naked man chewing on another man's face and shouted on his loud speaker for him to back away. Meanwhile, a woman also saw the incident and flagged down a police officer who was in the area," The Miami Herald said.

The City of Miami police officer ordered the assailant to back away and shot him when he continued biting his victim.

"The attacker failed to stop after being shot, forcing the officer to continue firing. Witnesses said they heard at least a half dozen shots," The Herald said.

The identities of the dead man and his victim, who was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious facial wounds, have not been released.

Investigators suspect the assailant may have been acting under the influence of some type of drug.

The shooting caused a massive traffic jam on the nearby MacArthur Causeway, which leads to Miami Beach, the site of a hip-hop festival that is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors this weekend. EFE
