Mexico City – A Zacatecas state police helicopter crashed Wednesday in central Mexico, but no one was injured, emergency management officials told Efe.
State police chief Gen. Jesus Pinto Ortiz and another high-level police chief, Gen. Victor Manuel Bosque, were aboard the aircraft with pilot Victor Ojeda.
The accident occurred around 8:00 a.m. at the state police headquarters in Zacatecas city.
The two police commanders were apparently heading to the city of Jerez, located about 50 kilometers (31 miles) southwest of Zacatecas city, the state capital, to deal with a shooting.
The helicopter was barely "about 20 meters (65 feet)" off the ground when it crashed for unknown reasons and was destroyed, state police spokeswoman Lucila Gutierrez said.
Officials have not said whether the accident was caused by mechanical problems or pilot error.
