One person was killed and another injured when a helicopter crashed in a residential area of the southeastern Venezuelan city of Puerto Ordaz, first responders said Thursday.

The co-pilot died, but the pilot survived and was taken to a hospital, a spokesman for the Humboldt Rescue Organization told Efe.

The helicopter fell to earth shortly after taking off from Manuel Carlos Piar Airport on a test flight, the spokesman said, adding: "There was a problem and it crashed."

He said the aircraft, identified as a BO-105 model, wound up in the parking lot of an apartment building and the resulting explosion left at least two vehicles in flames.
