A woman was found dead about 200 meters (yards) from the venue for aquatic events at the Pan American Games, now under way in this western Mexican city, officials told Efe Thursday.

The body was discovered around 10:00 a.m. by a municipal police officer, the spokesman for the Jalisco state Attorney General's Office said.

Lino Gonzalez said the body was outside the security perimeter set up around the aquatic complex for the Oct. 14-30 hemispheric sporting competition.

The Mexican government has deployed some 11,000 police and soldiers in Guadalajara to provide security for the Pan American Games.

The unidentified woman had bruises on her face and appeared to have been sexually assaulted, Gonzalez said.

The body was found among some bushes in the Metropolitan Park, which surrounds the Pan Am aquatic complex and tennis stadium, the spokesman added.
