Two satellites, including one belonging to Spain's Hispasat, were carried into orbit by an Ariane 5 rocket from the European Space Agency's Kuru complex in French Guiana.

The rocket lifted off at 2205 GMT on Saturday after several launch postponements.

The launch was originally scheduled for Nov. 6, 2013, but it was cancelled when officials concluded that further tests were needed on the rocket.

The Ariane 5 carried Hispasat's Amazonas 4A satellite and the Astra 5B satellite belonging to SES, a company based in Luxembourg, into orbit.

Amazonas 4A, which has 24 Ku-band transponders, will provide audiovisual service to South America from Venezuela and Colombia to Argentina and Chile. EFE
