A snake charmer died in Marrakech, a city in southern Morocco, after being bitten by his snake while performing for tourists in Jemaa El Fna Plaza, media reports said Monday.

The snake charmer, identified only as Abdelati, was entertaining a group of tourists last Friday when the cobra bit him.

The 60-year-old man tried to suck the venom out of the wound, but he failed and was taken to Ibn Zohra Hospital, where he died.

Marrakech's Jemaa El Fna Plaza is known for its street performers, food vendors, storytellers and animal handlers.

Snake charmers often invite tourists to pose for photos with the snakes, telling visitors that the reptiles are not dangerous. EFE
