More than 50 culinary teams, professional and amateur, will take part this weekend in San Juan's barbecue cook-off that organizers say will be the biggest in the Caribbean.
The 7th Cattlemen's Caribbean BBQ Competition will be held at the San Juan Convention Center and is planned to be "a massive gastronomic and marketing event," according to its director Alexis Garcia. Prizes will be awarded in 10 categories.
"The event is aimed at developing Puerto Rican gastronomy, applauding our outstanding chefs, and providing premium activities for fans of the culinary arts," he said.
This year will see specific barbecue competitions like hamburgers, suckling pigs, chicken wings and desserts, while a special prize is reserved for the most creative showmanship.
Also to be contested will be the Chef Challenge, which will pit famous chefs against each other, and also the Slow Smoking BBQ Competition. EFE
