These condoms are more about fashion than protection.

Designer and entrepreneur Sandrysabel Ortiz has created a new product that is revolutionizing the fashion accessories market in Puerto Rico.

Enter "Heel Condoms," a product that allows women to change the appearance of their shoes without springing for a new pair.

"Heel Condoms," which were launched in 2010, have become a big hit in the accessories market for fashion and footwear, Ortiz said in an interview with Efe.

"Since the launch of the first model, more than 10,000 covers have been sold," the 25-year-old designer said.

The fashion entrepreneur created her innovative product shortly after graduating from college.

"Despite the success, we are still in the process of educating (consumers) about the product," Ortiz said.

"Heel Condoms," which come in several different varieties, allow women to customize their shoes.

"This is a solution for women's footwear problems," the designer said, adding that the covers start at $10 and go all the way up to $40 for cloth models.

The company has just launched reversible covers, giving buyers two different models with the purchase of just one Heel Condoms package.

A new line will go on the market soon for brides and bridesmaids, Ortiz said.

"Heel Condoms" are available online and from selected retailers.
