Indian actress Jiah Khan was found dead Tuesday in her Mumbai apartment, according to The Times of India, which reported that she may have taken her own life, although the police have not made public any details of the investigation. She was 25.

The actress's mother, Rabiya Khan, also an actress, apparently found the young Bollywood star hanged in the young woman's apartment in the Juhu neighborhood.

Khan, who had captivated the Indian public with her long black hair, was born Nafisa Khan in New York but grew up in London before settling in India, where she began her acting career.

In 2007, she made her Bollywood debut in "Nishabd," playing a teenager who seduces the character played by Amitabh Bachchan, one of India's best-known actors.

A year later, she appeared in "Ghajini," the biggest production of the Indian film industry at that time.

In 2010, she starred in "Housefull," with that proving to be her final film.

Khan had just returned to London, where she was finishing up her acting studies while trying to make the crossover to European film.

The Indian film world has been very outspoken in expressing its sadness at learning the tragic news of Khan's death. EFE
