Veronica Ojeda, ex-girlfriend of Diego Armando Maradona, gave birth to the Argentine soccer icon's fourth child, her lawyer said Thursday.

Diego Fernando Maradona was born late Wednesday night at a clinic in Buenos Aires, Jorge Auruccio told reporters.

Maradona senior, now working in Dubai as a consultant to companies that organize sporting events, "is absolutely up to date about" the condition of mother and baby, the attorney said.

While unsure whether the 52-year-old father would be traveling to Argentina to see his new son, the lawyer said Diego Armando Maradona will send a formal acknowledgment of paternity via the Argentine Embassy in the United Arab Emirates.

"He will acknowledge him, there's no problem," Auruccio said.

The couple split up several months ago and the retired superstar's ex-wife and two adult daughters reacted angrily to news of Ojeda's pregnancy.

Auruccio ultimately got a court to issue a restraining order that bars Maradona's former spouse, Claudia Villafañe, from coming within 100 meters (328 feet) of Ojeda, and the two women also went before a judge to seal a mutual non-aggression pact.

Even so, Claudia's daughters with Maradona, Dalma and Giannina continued to excoriate Ojeda in social media.

Besides the girls and the new baby, Maradona is the father of Diego Maradona Sinagra, who was born in Italy in 1986. Though the soccer legend refuses to acknowledge him, Italian courts have found that Sinagra is his son.

Diego Armando Maradona also has a grandson.

Benjamin is the offspring of Giannina and rising soccer star Sergio "Kun" Aguero. EFE
