Roughly one in five music buyers in Britain get all of their tunes via downloads and streaming, the British Phonographic Industry says in a report released Thursday.
Nearly 28 percent of the UK population purchased downloads or streaming content last year, according to the study, Digital Music Nation 2013.
Goyte's "Somebody That I Used To Know," was the most-streamed cut of 2012, while BPI estimates the value of the UK market for streamed content at 49 million pounds ($75.88 million) annually.
Eighty percent of consumers know of at least one streaming audio service, and 68.8 percent are familiar with market leader Spotify.
All but 7 percent of streaming audio subscribers told EMI's Music Consumer Insight Team they are satisfied with the service they receive.
"Labels are striking innovative new deals with mobile networks, hardware manufacturers, app developers and start-ups," BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor said.
"The music fan will be the clear winner, as digital services evolve to deliver even richer music experiences via super-fast broadband and 4G to tablets, smart TVs and the next generation of in-car audio," he said. EFE
