The government has created the Commission for Dialogue with Mexico's Indian Peoples in an effort to repay the "historical debt" owed to the nation's native communities, Government Secretary Miguel Angel Osorio Chong said.
"We must try to make it so that the indigenous peoples, in practice, enjoy the same rights and opportunities as the rest of Mexicans," Osorio said in a press conference in Mexico City on Monday.
"We have to guarantee access to justice, education, health care and infrastructure to reverse the unjust situation of their rights and the gap that keeps them from enjoying the well-being they deserve," Osorio said.
President Enrique Peña Nieto's administration plans to assist Indian communities and regions via a permanent political dialogue, the government secretary said. EFE
