A team of 23 cooks in Costa Rica prepared what they described as the "biggest chop suey in the Americas," aiming to feed some 10,000 people, organizers said.

The event was organized Sunday by a brand of noodles at La Sabana Metropolitan Park in San Jose, where hundreds of locals of all ages came to savor the dish originally from China.

In preparing the chop suey the cooks used 1.2 tons of ingredients including broccoli, cauliflower, Chinese sauce, smoked chops, ham and more, all stirred together in a huge pot by the 23 cooks, many of them from the Far East.

"Nothing like this was ever made in the region before and the idea was to thank the 20,000 families that consume the brand's products every day in this country," the organization said in a communique.

The event was expected to continue throughout the day until the 10,000 portions of the dish made of noodles, meat and vegetables were all eaten. EFE
