The first Latin America-oriented parody news site on the Internet is being launched this week in Puerto Rico, creator Harold Jessurun told Efe Tuesday.

The journalist/cartoonist and television producer said the Web page - - meets the need for a "media outlet where you can read amusing news, forget about everything and laugh a little."

"There has to be a balance," he says. "There is reality, but also the softer side of things, and humor is always good; it's the best medicine."

The Web site takes its name from Jessurun's Emmy-winning television show, "Noticreo," which premiered in Puerto Rico in December 2008.

Besides sections such as Front Page, Sports, Entertainment and Politics, will offer stories focused on the individual Latin American countries.

Another feature is "Soy la Noticia" (I Am the News), which allows the viewer to upload a photo with his or her name and watch the site generate a phony news story linked to the image.

The page will likewise contain video clips from the "Noticreo" TV series.

Jessurun, creator of cartoon character "Pepito," said he is not afraid of lawsuits from public figures, as the site includes a disclaimer that makes it clear all the stories are fictitious.
