Mexican singer Thalia announced Friday the death of her mother, Yolanda Miranda, on her Twitter account, without specifying what caused her death nor where it occurred.

"Today half of my soul has died...I feel that I am slowly dying...Thank you for your prayers for my fighter, for my mother," the artist said.

Reporters from several Mexican media gathered at the airport in the city of Toluca near the Mexican capital to await the expected arrival of Thalia, who is apparently traveling from the U.S. on a private flight with her husband Tommy Mottola and the singer's obstetrician.

The singer of "Amor a la Mexicana" (Love the Mexican Way) is expecting her second child in a few weeks.

Thalia's Facebook page rapidly filled with hundreds of condolences once news of her mother's death was known.
