Mexican actor and director Gael Garcia Bernal is a father for the second time with the birth of his daughter Libertad, he announced on his Twitter account.

"With a cry of total happiness, we tell you @fonzidolores (his partner, the Argentine actress Dolores Fonzi) and yours truly, that our baby has been born. Libertad, her name. Libertad!" he tweeted. As yet he has given no further details.

The two had another child together, Lazaro, born in January 2009. The actor, 32, one of Mexican movies' most international celebrities, has always been active in aiding social causes, which could have inspired his new baby's name.

Just last Wednesday he sent a message expressing solidarity with the nationwide anti-crime marches in Mexico, which has been wracked by drug-related violence in recent years.

Garcia Bernal began as a child actor and made his leap to stardom with "Amores perros" (Love's a Bitch), in 2000, directed by his compatriot Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu. The two collaborated again in 2006 on the film "Babel."

For a time he was considered one of the golden bachelors of the big screen, and had a relationship with Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman.

Dolores Fonzi and he have been together now for several years. The couple moved temporarily to Spain in late 2009 during the final stages of her first pregnancy, seeking peace and quiet away from the paparazzi and tabloids of their home countries.
