Singer Christina Aguilera was arrested in Hollywood for "public intoxication" when she was with her boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, who was arrested for driving under the influence, the U.S. press reported on Tuesday.

About 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, police stopped the vehicle that Rutler was driving and arrested them both for public intoxication and DUI, respectively.

Aguilera's bail for her misdemeanor charge was set at $250, which she paid, but Rutler's bail was set at $30,000.

Spokesmen for the 30-year-old Aguilera made no comment with regard to this new controversy surrounding the singer, People magazine said.

The arrest for public drunkenness is one more embarrassment in a string of recent problems for the five-time Grammy winner, coming as it does just a month after Aguilera flubbed the lyrics to the national anthem at the Super Bowl.

In a statement sent by the singer's publicist, Aguilera explained her botching the words to "The Star-Spangled Banner" by saying that she was so emotional at the time she was performing in the stadium before the game that she simply forgot a few phrases.
