Now that we have thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving feast, it is time to detox.
There are a number of organs responsible for the removal of the toxins in your body, and while there are many detox plans to choose from, it is important to seek the guidance of a qualified health-care provider before you begin a regimen. Cleaning up your diet post Thanksgiving can be difficult with more holidays on their way. Here are some foods you can incorporate to give your body a chance to recalibrate.
Lentils: This fiber-rich legume aids in elimination, helps lower cholesterol, balances blood sugar and even increases your energy. Adding lentils to salads or having a cup of lentil soup can give you the balance you need.
Grapefruit: Sweet, tangy and fiber-rich fruit helps lower cholesterol, prevent kidney stones and aids the digestive system. Best when enjoyed for breakfast as a fresh squeezed juice or fruit bowl.
Cauliflower: Cruciferous veggies are great for detoxifying the body. This antioxidant-rich vegetable aids your body’s natural detoxification system and reduces inflammation. Enjoy a batch of steamed cauliflower as a side dish or raw in a mixed green salad.
Broccoli: Neutralizes and eliminates toxins while also delivering a healthy dose of vitamins. Broccoli is a versatile veggie that can also be added to salads or enjoyed raw.
Cucumber: Nutrient dense cucumbers, which are 95 percent water, help flush out toxins and alkalize the body. This is one of my favorites; you can enjoy cucumbers in salads or toss it into the juicer to give your juice a more nutritious value.
A great way to begin to feel better instantly is cutting sugar, salt and fat post holiday indulging. Exercising and hydration will also help move any toxins out of your body. Staying active will help keep you motivated as more holidays approach!
