NEW YORK- The New York Yankees' CC Sabathia and the Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander will resume their much anticipated pitching duel Monday night in Game 3 of their American League Division Series, the two teams announced Saturday.

Sabathia and Verlander began their pitching duel in Game 1 Friday night but the game was rained out in the second inning. Sabathia pushed hard to start in Game 2 Saturday so he could pitch again in a potential Game 5, but Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman rejected the idea.

"We don't think that's fair to him," Cashman told FOX Sports. "If we want the real CC Sabathia, I don't think you're going to see that pitcher if you do that. No matter how much will and intestinal fortitude you have, I don't think you'll get that pitcher that day if you do that."

CC Sabathia won the 2007 Cy Young Award for best pitcher in the American League and Verlander is considered a lock to win this year's award with a 24-5 record and a 2.40 ERA.

Game 1 is set to resume at 8:37pm ET Saturday with the Tigers' Doug Fister and the Yankees' Ivan Nova expected to be the pitchers at the re-start of the game.
