Miami – Venezuelan model and television host Mariangel Ruiz had no fear of making the leap to acting, a new field for her following her debut as star of the telenovela "La Viuda Joven" (The Young Widow).
During a telephone interview with Efe, the host for six years of the Venevision program "Portada's" said that in 2010 she decided to try her luck at acting and has never looked back.
Today the 31-year-old Venezuelan has the leading role in "La Viuda Joven," a telenovela on U.S. network Telefutura.
In it she plays the mysterious Inma Von Parker/Inmaculada Rojas, a woman who besides having the bad luck of being widowed three times, suffers from schizophrenia and has a missing daughter.
"This is a very strong character, but as I began to understand this very complex woman, I fell in love with the role. I'm really eager to get the new scripts because I want to know her better," she said.
Playing such a complex character is no easy task even for an experienced actress, so the surprise is that despite this being her first role as an actress, Mariangel has never feared the challenge.
"Maybe I felt a little respectful, that's logical. But I dared to do it because I've been hosting 'Portada's' for several years and I wanted to grow, to try something new. Anyway, I love challenges," she said.
Mariangel, the 2002 Miss Venezuela and first runner-up in the 2003 Miss Universe competition, has a 4-year-old daughter from her marriage to Major League Baseball player Tony Alvarez, whom she divorced in 2009.
