Shakira said she will be staying away from boyfriend Gerard Pique during the World Cup in Brazil because she doesn’t want to be a “distraction.”

During an interview Thursday with Telemundo’s “Al Rojo Vivo,” the Colombian singer was asked if there was truth to reports that managers from her boyfriend’s Spanish team told her to stay away from Pique during the soccer tournament.

“It’s not true,” Shakira said, laughing. “I guess you are referring to the ‘extracurricular activities.’ In that sense, sure, we need to respect what is called a concentration because, if not, it would be a distraction.”

Shakira met Pique four years ago during the World Cup in South Africa while they were filming a music video for the tournament’s anthem song, “Waka Waka.” Their son, Milan, is 1 ½.

“He told me (at the time): ‘I am going to win this World Cup so that we can see each other at the finals and he won,” she said. “I remember that when we started going out he said, ‘At the next World Cup we are going to go with our son.’”

During her interview with Telemundo, the singer spoke about possible wedding plans.

“I have not thought about it much, it’s not something I dedicate a lot of time to,” Shakira said. “I have gone through a lot of things, everything that you can imagine in life, but the best has been Gerard and Milan.”

The singer admitted that she and her Spanish boyfriend have discussed the possibility of marriage in the past, but that he has not proposed. Yet, she said she sees herself with him “for all life.”

“In reality it’s not important because we have consolidated our family, one that I feel proud of,” she said. “And we are happy and that is all that matters.”

As for future plans of expanding the family, the singer said: “In the short term we want to continue to expand our family but we don’t know exactly when. We will have to wait until the World Cup is over.”

“Right now it’s in ‘concentration,’ at least telepathically,” Shakira joked.
