Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber hit the beaches on Panama's Pacific coast ahead of his appearance before a judge in the United States this week.

The teen idol, who was arrested in Miami Beach for drunk driving and drag racing last Thursday, enjoyed the surf at a luxury hotel in Punta Chame.

The 19-year-old Bieber is scheduled to appear before a judge in Miami on Monday.

Panamanian media outlets published photos of Bieber surrounded by his bodyguards, strolling with friends and accompanied by a blonde wearing a bikini.

"During his stay on the beaches of Chame, Bieber drank some beers, tanned for a while and took a ride on a jet ski," the Telemetro network reported.

The popular singer arrived in Panama on Friday night aboard a private plane that landed at the Rio Hato airport in Cocle and went from there to Punta Chame, the network said.

Bieber performed in Panama in October and his concert was sold out three months earlier, organizers said.

Bieber was arrested by Miami Beach police on DUI, resisting arrest and drag racing charges early Thursday.

The Canadian singer, who was driving a yellow Lamborghini at the time of his arrest, argued with police when they tried to search him and was arrested when he failed to comply with officers' orders.

Miami Beach police chief Raymond Martinez told The Miami Herald that the singer did not have a valid driver's license.

Tabloid news Web site TMZ reported that Bieber had left a nightclub earlier in the morning after partying with friends.

The man Bieber was racing in a residential area was also arrested.

Bieber's arrest occurred days after Los Angeles police raided his home to investigate the role he played in acts of vandalism in his neighborhood.
