Agencia Efe, the world's largest Spanish-language news agency and No. 4 overall, on Monday began news operations at its new headquarters in Madrid just a few days after celebrating its 75th anniversary.
The Digital Content and Sports departments are already working out of the new HQ on Burgos Ave., where within a month the transfer of all operations from its facilities on Espronceda St., where EFE has been located for the past 36 years, will be complete.
The victory of Spanish tennis player Tommy Robredo at the Australian Open was the first news story transmitted by the Sports department from the new HQ.
Agencia EFE turned 75 on Jan. 3 and plans a year full of commemorative activities, including the inauguration of the new headquarters and a big historical exposition.
EFE's new HQ, located in the northern part of the Spanish capital, is a building with some 11,000 square meters (118,300 square feet) of floor space, as well as facilities on the ground floor where the studios of EFETV have been established.
The agency sees the new headquarters as a reflection of EFE's status as a modern, competitive enterprise. EFE
