Beyonce's fifth studio disc, in a surprise release last Friday on iTunes only, has set a record for sales on that digital platform with 828,773 albums downloaded, industry sources said Tuesday.
The record up to now was held by Taylor Swift, with 617,213 copies sold of his 2002 album "Red."
Self-titled "Beyonce," this is the first video album by the U.S. artist and is made up of 14 songs and 17 videos filmed in New York, Paris, Sidney and Rio de Janeiro.
The numbers include duos with her husband, Jay-Z, and singers like Frank Ocean and the rapper Drake. On the video of the song that wraps up the disc, "Blue," she appears with her daughter, Blue Ivy.
Users of iTunes could not, on this occasion, purchase singles at the usual price of 99 cents, but had to buy the whole album for $15.99. EFE
