An autopsy shows "Fast & Furious" star Paul Walker was killed by the combined effects of the impact and subsequent fire after Saturday's car crash.
His friend and financial adviser Roger Rodas, who was driving the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT that smashed into a light pole and tree then exploded into flames, was killed by the impact. The report was released Wednesday by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Sheriff’s investigators are still trying to determine exactly what caused Rodas to careen out of control. They have said speed was a factor.
The coroner’s office said a toxicology report is still pending for both car enthusiasts. The results are expected within six to eight weeks.
Walker starred in all but one of the six "Fast & Furious" blockbuster films that glorified fast cars and dangerous driving.
According to Merrill Lynch’s Wealth Management site, Rodas and Walker met in the mid-2000s when Walker noticed the Salvadoran driving a Porsche GT3 he had previously owned.
Their love for cars and racing brought them together and soon the two were racing side by side – they teamed up a couple years ago with two professional drivers in a pro-am 25-hour endurance race in Thunder Hill, Calif.
In 2007 Rodas became Walker’s financial adviser, helping him keep his passion for cars and racing without it being a financial burden. The duo created and co-owned the Always Evolving Performance Shop and the Always Evolving racing team.
In a recent statement, Jordana Brewster, who played the actor’s love interest in the movies, said Walker’s death is “heartbreaking.”
“Paul was an enormous presence in my life for the past 14 years. While many would be satisfied with material success, it made Paul more convinced of the need to help others,” she said. “He never spoke of his immense generosity or philanthropic endeavors unless I prodded, however. This is what made Paul Paul.”
The statement continued, “He lived with integrity, humanity and humility and seemed most happy when talking about his daughter, Meadow. I don’t know anyone who lived each moment more fully and loved life more than Paul, making his loss all the more heartbreaking.”
Walker is survived by a 15-year-old daughter, while Rodas is survived by a wife and two children.
