Alexis and Fido may have several albums under their belt and they've collaborated with reggaeton greats Pitbull, Daddy Yankee and Winsin & Yandel, but their new single is a step away from the “perreo” they are known for – precisely what they want.
“Los Reyes del Perreo” told Fox News Latino they wanted their new music to reflect the various styles that display their Latin American roots but still keeping true to their roots “reggaetoneros.”
Their new single, “Alocate,” which dropped earlier this month, is a prime example of the new style of music they want to present: Fun, entertaining and danceable.
“It has soca, the trumpets of merengue, a little bit of what we are known for as ‘Los Reyes del Perreo’ – it’s very different,” said Fido, whose real name is Raul Martinez. “It’s for people that like to do zumba or for when they go dancing.”
“Alocate” is the Puerto Rican duo's new single from their upcoming album, “La Esencia,” out at the end of the year. It highlights a rhythmic mixture of tropical and urban sound accompanied by lyrics written by the duo and produced by Mad Music and Latin Grammy award-winning producer Luny Tunes.
Alexis, whose real name is Raul Alexis Ortiz, said the song’s sound is “more than reggaeton and perreo” – something that is heard throughout the album.
“It’s a very complete album,” Ortiz told Fox News Latino.
The album’s first single, “Rompe la Cintura,” has risen to the top of Billboard rankings for several weeks.
This is not the first time the duo has shown a different side of what fans are used to. In their song, “Donde Estes Llegare,” off their 2011 release “Perreologia” Martinez and Ortiz showed a softer, more romantic side.
“We worked on the song together but I brought the concept,” Martinez told Fox News Latino in June 2011. “Between the both of us we came up with the lyrics which are romantic, but the sound has reggaeton and pop mixed in.”
“Anyone can be DJ of a party for a little while (with the DECK),” Alexis added. “It’s very fun.”
Alexis and Fido are getting ready to hit the road on tours across the U.S. and Latin America. They will be Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, Dominican Republic, Miami, Colombia and Peru over the next several weeks.
