The 30th edition of the MTV Video Music Awards could have a Spaniard among the winners, given that Alejandro Sanz has been nominated in the Best Latino Artist category.
He will go up against Cuban-American rapper Pitbull, Puerto Rican reggaeton giants Daddy Yankee and Don Omar and Mexican brother-sister duo Jesse & Joy, who thanks to their combination of pop-rock have already racked up a long list of awards, including four Latin Grammys.
The identity of the winner, who will collect the award at the ceremony to be held at New York's Barclays Center on Aug. 25, will be determined in a public vote held via the MTV Tr3s Web site.
Sanz, who will return to Mexico in September on his international tour and will perform at the Acoustic Session of the Latin Grammys, debuted in first place on the Latino Billboard list with his latest album - "La musica no se toca" - which was also No. 1 in sales in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Spain.
