American actor Ron Perlman and Spanish actor Santiago Segura have slowly gained the confidence of Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, who has cast them in his latest film, "Pacific Rim."
"Ron and Santiago are a bit of my actor charms at this point," the director said in an interview with Efe in Miami.
The 48-year-old Del Toro, who is based in Los Angeles, made an appearance in Miami to screen "Pacific Rim," which opens on July 12.
The cast of "Pacific Rim" features Segura, who has been friends with the director for some time.
"I adore him," Del Toro said, referring to Segura.
The director, who has won a Goya and two Ariels, did not rule out the possibility that Segura could sell Hollywood on an adaptation of "Torrente," one of the highest grossing films ever in Spain.
"I ate with Oliver Stone three months ago and he tol me he was close to making 'Torrente' with Sacha Baron Cohen and Santiago. So the rumors that were out there were true," Del Toro said.
The Mexican director also has a good relationship with Perlman, with whom he worked on "Cronos" (1993), "Blade II" (2002) and the two "Hellboy" films (2004, 2008).
"Perlman is one of my best friends, an actor who I admired for a long time. It was lucky meeting up with him on my first film," Del Toro said, adding that he was fortunate to have Perlman, Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi in the cast of "Pacific Rim." EFE
